Que peut-on semer en août au Québec ?

Épinard, mâche, roquette, radis d'automne, navet, laitues résistantes, moutardes à feuilles, mesclun et bok choy. C'est aussi la fenêtre des engrais verts : avoine, seigle, moutarde blanche, sarrasin avant la mi-août.

Jusqu'à quand peut-on semer à l'automne ?

Jusqu'à la mi-septembre pour une récolte d'automne, sous couverture flottante pour les derniers semis. Après les premières gelées et jusqu'au gel du sol, on sème encore en dormance : épinard, mâche et ail, qui lèveront au printemps suivant.

Qu'est-ce qu'un semis en dormance ?

C'est semer tard à l'automne, quand le sol est assez froid pour que la graine ne germe pas avant l'hiver. Elle passe la saison froide en terre et lève dès le dégel, avec deux à trois semaines d'avance. La méthode fonctionne pour l'épinard, la mâche, et pour les vivaces qui exigent une période de froid comme l'échinacée, la monarde ou l'asclépiade.
