Quand semer les tomates au Québec ?

À l'intérieur, 6 à 8 semaines avant la transplantation, soit autour de la mi-mars dans le sud du Québec et à la fin mars en zone 3. Transplantez au jardin quand les nuits dépassent 10 °C, vers le début de juin. Un semis trop hâtif donne des plants étiolés qui souffrent au repiquage.

Tomate déterminée ou indéterminée, quelle différence ?

La déterminée pousse jusqu'à une hauteur fixe, donne sa récolte sur trois ou quatre semaines et se passe presque de taille : c'est celle des conserves et des petits espaces. L'indéterminée grandit et produit jusqu'aux gelées, demande un tuteur solide et une taille des gourmands : c'est celle des tomates de table.

Peut-on conserver ses propres semences de tomate ?

Oui, tous nos cultivars sont à pollinisation libre, donc fidèles d'une année à l'autre. Prélevez la pulpe d'une tomate bien mûre, laissez-la fermenter deux ou trois jours dans un peu d'eau, rincez, puis séchez les graines à plat. Elles germent encore après cinq ans.
