History and mission

In the spring of 2015, Yves Gagnon and Diane Mackay offered their youngest daughter Catherine Gagnon-Mackay the opportunity to take over the marketing of seeds from their company Les Jardins du Grand-Portage, founded in 1980 in Saint-Didace.

Yves and Diane are the pioneers of seed sales in Quebec, and are responsible for the lineage of the famous Savignac tomato.

Charmed by the peaceful beauty of the Lanaudière foothills landscapes, the couple decided to settle on the banks of the Maskinongé River on land where an old barn stood, which they transformed over time into an original and picturesque home, wonderfully integrated into the surrounding environment.

The majority of seeds are produced there, but Semences du Portage now relies on more than eight local producers to fill its catalog. The addition of a website and a pick-up point in Montreal has propelled the company, which is now considered a leader in the field.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide quality seeds and support our customers in their efforts. By encouraging food self-sufficiency, our carbon footprint is reduced and biodiversity is protected.
