Advice from the seed producer and author

Yves Gagnon

Ground cherry growing conditions

The ground cherry is a light and heat-loving species. Its cultivation is relatively easy, provided the climate is favorable, except for the striped potato beetle, which infests it in the spring and against which it must be protected with agrotextile. The species grows well in all types of soil rich in organic matter and with good drainage. It tolerates drought well. The soil can be amended with 1 t of young compost per 100 m2. The optimal pH is between 6 and 6.5.

Ground cherry crop rotation

Ground cherries are grown at the head of the rotation with plants that require young compost.

Companion training of ground cherries

Ground cherry grows well alongside other nightshades and summer squash. It combines well with marigold, marigold, borage, and cosmos.
