Growing conditions for kale

Kale can withstand temperatures as low as -10°C; its flavor actually increases with cold.
requires growing conditions similar to those of headed cabbage.

Kale Crop Rotation

Kale is grown in the second year of rotation after growing plants that require young compost. It looks great in ornamental beds.

Companion planting of kale

Kale is associated with other leafy vegetables which, like it, are grown in the second year of rotation with additions of well-rotted compost. With this in mind, it can be grown alongside lettuce and chicory, celery, Swiss chard, spinach and leek. It could also be associated with celeriac, radish and beetroot. Marigold, nasturtium, marigold and borage are good companion plants.
